Modern Foreign Languages
MFL Curriculum Intent
Language learning at Bradfield develops tolerance and fosters curiosity through exposure to the language and culture of other countries. By doing this, we deepen our students’ understanding of the world, in which they live. Language learning at Bradfield builds students’ cultural capital, develops open-mindedness and broadens future horizons and opportunities. Through language we can connect with other people. We raise awareness of the nature of language and language learning, in both the new languages and the mother tongue. Our intent is to develop confident communicators who can express their ideas and thoughts in a foreign language and can understand and respond to its speakers. Throughout their 3 or 5 years of language learning, students will develop the ability to manipulate language and to stand on “their own two feet” in a foreign language context in the hope to prepare them for an increasingly competitive world.
