There is a wealth of evidence about the benefits of continuing to read for pleasure. For instance, research cited by The Reading Agency suggests that "Reading for pleasure is more important for children's cognitive development than their parents' level of education and is a more powerful factor in life achievement than socio-economic background."

 At Bradfield, we have made reading part of our 2023/4 school development plan from our most vulnerable learners to our students with high prior attainment.

We were pleased to share ideas with parents and carers at our recent workshops on supporting your child to read at home : you can download the presentations below. Both give guidance and ideas on how to encourage your child to read for pleasure at home. Reading recommendations on the left of this screen also gives some reading ideas.

You can start by talking to them about what they are reading right now in reading lessons, tutor time, English lessons, KS3 and KS4 book group, and their own personal reading. The tabs on the right show you more.
